Born in 1988 in a musical family, David Thomaere discovers the piano at the age of 6. During his childhood, he loves improvising and composing his own musical ideas and at the age of 9 he starts at the local music school with classical piano lessons.
As a teenager his affection with improvisation grows even stronger and at the age of 17 he starts his Bachelor in jazz piano at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he studies with masters like Diederik Wissels, Dirk Schreurs, Kris Defoort, etc.
In the main time he attends several masterclasses abroad which gives hime the opportunity to take lessons with Kenny Werner, John Tayler, Sheila Jordan, Palle Danielsson, Steffano Battaglia, etc.
For his Master David leaves for Leipzig, Germany, to study with jazz legend Richie Beirach, after which he returns to Brussels to finish his studies with Nathalie Loriers, pianist of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra.
In march 2013 he feels very honoured to receive the “Toots Thielemans Jazz Award” and in July 2014 David is nominated for the Sabam Jazz Award.
Next to his own trio, with Felix Zurstrassen on bass and 'coming man' Antoine Pierre on drums, David Thomaere is also playing other kinds of music in several different bands like the hip-hop/soul inspired Okon & The Movement and his collaboration with young singers like Billie Bentein and Typh Barrow.
During his musical career David played with a lot of renown jazz artists such as Lorenzo Di Maio, Antoine Pierre Urbex, Toine Thys, Teun Verbruggen, Patrick Dorcean, Jean-Paul Estiévenart, Steven Delannoye, Guillaume Vierset, Stijn Cools, Bert Cools,….
